Venus Williams takes out 2015 ASB Classic
Seven-time Grand Slam champion, Venus Williams has
taken the title at the 2015 ASB Classic, defeating the
number one seed Caroline Wozniacki in three sets.
In what was a dream final for the tournament, Williams fought back from being a set down in the first, to break Wozniacki early in the second, before taking the third 6-3.
Williams was the runner-up at the 2014 tournament and
made good on her promise to return in 2015, this time for
the win.
During her winner’s speech, she made mention
of the fantastic crowd support, and has previously said she
feels like a hometown girl in Auckland.
Williams defeated Jana Cepelova, Kurumi Nara, Elena Vesnina and Lauren Davis, to arrive at the 2015 final. This is her 46th WTA title.
The doubles final took place earlier in the day, with number one seeds Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci taking out number four seeds Shuko Aoyama and Renata Voracova in straight sets for the title, 6-2, 6-1.
