Leitch Brothers Ready for New Toyota Racing Series

Leitch Brothers Ready for New Toyota Racing Series Campaign

Southland brothers Damon and Brendon Leitch of Invercargill are ready for their 2015 Toyota Racing Series campaign with Nelson based team Victory Motor Racing.

The brothers are part of a classy international field assembling at Mike Pero Motorsport Park at Ruapuna near Christchurch for the opening round this weekend.

Damon, aged 22, is embarking on his fifth season in the class with the distinction of twice placing third against the top opposition that comes from all around the globe each year. His results are even more impressive when it is considered that while the competition arrives race fit and ready to go from their respective racing series Leitch does little more racing than the five rounds of the series each year. In the past he has even returned to his job in Invercargill between some of the rounds of the series.

While his four previous years in the series were in the Tatuus FT-40 chassis used in the first ten years of Toyota Racing Series action this season will see a new chassis introduced, the FT-50. "It's a bit faster and everything is a bit newer and works better," says Damon.

After impressive efforts in the past Leitch admits that the championship is a goal this year. "It is about getting a good start and keeping it going," he says. Support for Damon's efforts come from Post Haste Couriers, Zero Fees and Bowater Toyota.

Younger brother Brendon (19) made an impressive debut in the class last year, securing a best race result of sixth. He returns this year and is happy with how things have gone in the early part of the week as the teams have been preparing at Mike Pero Motorsport Park. "I would like to take a podium this weekend. With the testing and work I have done working at Highlands Motorsport Park this year I am hoping for big things." Brendon too, is enjoying the new chassis. "With the twin front shocks it steers better than the old chassis and you can straddle the kerbs."

Brendon carries support from ITM and Post Haste Couriers but is still short of the full budget to complete the entire championship.

After the opening round this weekend the series travels to Teretonga Park in Invercargill followed by rounds at Hampton Downs in North Waikato, Taupo Motorsport Park and Manfeild in Feilding.
