The line up for April's New Zealand Jazz and Blues Festival is getting hotter, with legendary guitarist Hank Marvin bringing his quartet, Hank Marvin Gypsy Jazz to Christchurch.

Tickets are on sale tomorrow, Thursday 22 January, for all the key Festival performances, including Hank Marvin, Miami-based sensation Fantine, James Morrison with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, and Nathan Haines with his seven-piece band.

Hank Marvin's sizzling sounds of swing are coming to Christchurch on Friday 10 April at Charles Luney Auditorium, St Margaret's College.

Festival director, Jodi Wright says guitarist Hank Marvin has achieved legendary status the world over.

"From his early days with The Shadows through to his forays into rock 'n roll, swing and gypsy jazz, his technical skill, precision and rhythmic integrity bring us music that invades the soul," she says.

Marvin's quartet, Hank Marvin Gypsy Jazz, features virtuoso accordionist Nunzio Mondai, stand-out rhythm guitarist Gary Taylor and guest bassist, Robbie Pisano. Their debut album, Django's Castle is flying high in the USA Jazz charts.

"Don't miss the opportunity to hear this amazing ensemble and one of the world's most renowned guitarists in an intimate setting," Jodi Wright says.

US reviews for Hank Marvin Gypsy Jazz:

"All guns fully loaded, this is a treat all round." (Hall of Fame, Top 100 reviewer Brady Harp).

"Marvin plays it as though it's the only sound he's been perfecting his entire life. Melodically and rhythmically the tunes and performances are sophisticated and sublime." (Pop Culture Classics, Paul Freeman)

"Marvin stands well out on every cut, Taylor the true swingin' rhythm section. Mondia sandwiched in between, but a guy who comes out with killer solos as well, complementing Marvin or carrying on the melodics in essence, playing Grappelli to Marvin's Django. Forget about me choosing a favourite track, as every single cut is dauntingly gemlike." (Fame Review, Mark S. Tucker).
