Digital literacy programme supports thousands of Hutt residents
Hutt City Libraries’ innovative digital literacy programme Stepping UP, has returned to five Hutt City Libraries after a record number enrolments in 2014.
The programme offers free computer skills classes for Hutt City residents with basic, or no computer skills.
There are thirteen subjects to choose from, including Introduction to Spreadsheets, Trade Me, Skype, Email, Word and Employment Preparation. A Computer Basics class is available for people who have never touched a computer before.
The pilot established by the 2020 Communications Trust and Hutt City Libraries in 2012, has seen hundreds of residents from all walks of life participate in the programme and has resulted in increased confidence and skill levels.
Sandra Mann, Divisional Manager, Libraries says that “digital literacy is vital to success in the 21st century; this programme allows people of all ages, with little to no experience with computers, to gain much needed confidence and knowledge.”
Stepping UP is available at five Hutt City libraries; Naenae Library, Stokes Valley Library, Taita Library, Wainuiomata Library, and War Memorial Library.
Bookings are now open. Classes start from Monday 2 February.
