Come and Sing in the Fringe
PRESS RELEASE
Orpheus Choir is launching its series of concerts this year with a Come and Sing in The Fringe. Anyone who loves to sing is invited to take part with Orpheus members in this day of singing. Favourite choruses from opera and oratorio that we often hear backing ads on TV or at the movies will be sung – choruses like The Triumphal March from Verdi’s Aida, Va pensiero from Verdi’s Nabucco, and Orff’s O Fortuna from Carmina Burana. The music ranges through the whole gamut of life’s emotions – jubilation, love and loss, betrayal, despair.
Master choral conductor Brent Stewart, Orpheus Choir’s new Music Director, will lead the day of rehearsals starting at 9.30am, assisted by expert pianist Fiona McCabe. Soprano soloist Tamara Buckland will sing glorious arias, and the day’s rehearsals will culminate in a short concert at 4.30pm. The workshop and concert take place at the Salvation Army Citadel, 92 Vivian St.
The whole day including the concert is totally free, although a koha would be welcome. Music is provided, so in order for enough booklets to be ready, singers are encouraged to register in advance by contacting gwen.levick@xtra.co.nz or 04 382 8296.
Everyone is welcome, although basic music knowledge will be helpful. Orpheus is delighted to offer this singing experience to the community - it is surprising how exhilarating a Come and Sing Day can be. The Choir is grateful to Creative New Zealand and The Fringe for support for this project.
