Auckland Fringe is Live And Kickin'!

With only eight sleeps to go Auckland Fringe is ready to roar into life with a vibrant array of events citywide from 9 Feb – 1 March. With some of New Zealand’s most talented artists and international acts on offer, this festival is brimming with boundary-busting acts across theatre, comedy, dance, music and everything in between.

The programme boasts a wild selection of entertainment, art and culture divided over 23 venues. Aucklanders should prepare for stunning showcases from the theatre precinct - Auckland Live, Q Theatre and The Basement - as well as a bevy of eccentric and exciting street-theatre locations.

The Fringe is back at Auckland Live! Get a taste of the Fringe at The Square Soapbox in Aotea Square. Starting with the Auckland Fringe opening night celebration on 11 February, Fringe showcase performances are being hosted by Sal Valentine, Snort and Bright Futureswhile Binge Culture Collective lead the rescue mission in another epic stranding of Whales. Grab a ticket and experience poetic magic withRising Voices, have an adventure with Risk & Win Arcade or find out what happens when a gay footballer finds love in Away From Home.

Q Theatre is making a splash on the Fringe scene this year with a TASTY 2015 menu featuring 11 local and international acts. A hand-picked selection to stimulate the senses in the most unimaginable and unexpected ways, TASTY 2015 at Q offers something for everyone. From jumping eggs and caterpillar puppeteers (Caterpillars) for all ages, to late-night stand-up (Wanted Thoughts). There’s even Frank, the Mindreading Hotdog for adventurous diners. With shows playing in the art-deco Loft space, as well as the intimate underground Vault studio, Fringe at Q will be full of flavour – with no two nights the same.

26 genre-bending shows barrelling through the venue in just 20 days fillsThe Basement Theatre’s line up with goodies. All sides of love are explored with acclaimed playwright Victor Rodger's Girl On A Corner - based on Eddie Murphy's fa'afafine encounter - and Wellington-based Binge Culture's marathon heartache on Valentine's Day - Break Up (We Need To Talk). Teeth are bared in MOTHER/JAW, a blend of dance (Jahra Rager and Grace Woollett) and spoken word (Grace Taylor), while I Wanna Be Na Nah Na Nah Nah will literally transport punters back to 1983 with a bus ride and headphone tour of the streets of Ponsonby.

The party continues around the city with Auckland favourites Wet Hot Beauties bringing their latest water ballet Wipe Out! to Mission Bay, Pt Chev, Takapuna, Judges Bay and Splore. The Maidment Theatre heats up with one for the family in Two Farting Sisters (don’t worry, it’s based on a Chinese fable) and Under The Same Moon from Auckland’s talented writer Renee Liang. If you’re looking for a taste of something a little more musical, head on over to Portland Public House for a Tom Waits cabaret-style dinner: Rain Dogs Cabaret or treat your ears to A Symphony of Sloths at the Audio Foundation.

Silo Park hosts an Auckland Fringe vs Silo Cinema screening of Florian Habicht’s Pulp: A Film About Life, Death & Supermarkets and Silver Circle make a welcome return to The Rose Centre bringing all manner of toys to life for those on the Shore.

Shows generally run for just 50 minutes and mostly range from totally free to $20 – so you can't fail! Be sure to come along and enjoy yourself a bit of Fringe action.
