Chelsea Herbert's Driving Ambition
Chelsea Herbert's Driving Ambition
Rising motorsport star Chelsea Herbert is striving to qualify this year to represent New Zealand in the Karting World Championships.
The Albany 16-year-old has had a successful junior karting career, and is now looking to step up and compete in the 2015 New Zealand Rotax Max Challenge.
She will be one of the youngest competitors, and may be the only female competing in her class of racing in the male-dominated series.
Chelsea will compete in a class that is new to the national level of the championship, meaning that she will be on level pegging with her competitors.
"I'm confident that I can do well in this class," she said.
If Chelsea is successful in the domestic series, she will be eligible to compete in a world championship held in Europe.
Chelsea was acknowledged as one of New Zealand’s Top 20 Young Guns in Motorsport at the recent CRC Speedshow in Auckland.
“My ultimate goal is to be the most successful female driver and challenge the male dominance of the sport,” she said.
Chelsea is a Year 12 student at Albany Senior High School. In addition to motor
racing, she is passionate about Jazz Ballet, Scottish dancing and fitness training.
She has recently sat her NCEA Level 1 exams and passed with Merit and Excellence endorsements.
