After a record season in 2014, The Harbourview Sculpture Trail, a picturesque outdoor art exhibition held on Te Atatu Peninsula, Auckland, is set to return for a third time in March 2016.
The Harbourview Sculpture Trail, a biennial exhibition of contemporary New Zealand art is now calling for proposals to exhibit from artists for the 2016 season. Run by the charitable organisation Peninsula Arts Inc, the trail is known for attracting some of New Zealand’s most talented emerging and established artists. Over 13,000 visitors attended the Harbourview Sculpture Trail in 2014, located at Harbourview Peoples Park, Te Atatu Peninsula, just 15 minutes drive from Auckland city.
Trail curator
Sally Lush, said "We are challenging artists to create
site-specific sculptures which relate to the environment,
flora and fauna, social and political issues of this area.
Preference will be given to new artworks which have not been
exhibited previously.
The success of the 2014 event means
that we are now able to offer a financial contribution to
successfully selected artists who exhibit in 2016. We see
this as an important way to support the growth of artists in
New Zealand, especially in the exciting emerging artist
sector. Our new selection panel and I are looking forward
to raising the bar for the 2016 exhibition.”
The selection panel for 2016 consists of Harbourview Sculpture Trail curator Sally Lush, Director of Te Uru Waitakere Contemporary GalleryAndrew Clifford, and Programme Leader of Visual Arts at AUT Monique Redmond.
During the 17 day exhibition running 4 – 20 March 2016, sculptures will be set in and around ponds, amongst native flaxes and bush, in open fields and tidal salt marshes and against a spectacular backdrop of the Waitemata harbour and Auckland City.
