“Guided by her faith and intuition, with
only circumstantial evidence, Sister Aloysius sets about to
force the charismatic new priest, Father Flynn, to confess
to an unforgivable act.”
This is the setup for John Patrick Shanley's Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play “Doubt: A Parable” presented at The Rose Centre in Belmont from 30 April - 2 May.
Shanley sets out to challenge his audience to explore the effect gossip and scandal can have by deliberately ending the play ambiguously. Leaving the audience with questions was part of the appeal for the play’s director, James Bell.
“The play is much more engaging and interactive when you look back and try to pick up clues about the Father’s guilt or innocence. We’re hoping to inspire some great conversations once the curtain falls.” says Bell.
The cast and creative team are hosting a post-show discussion on Friday, 1 May, inviting the audience to stay share their opinions with the team and hear about the creative process of putting the show together.
