Oyster Festival on Track

Oyster Festival on Track

Less than two weeks to go until the 2015 Bluff Oyster & Food Festival on Saturday 23 May and things are pointing towards a spectacular event.

The change to a new permanent site in Lee Street, Bluff will be a highlight of this years Festival and festival goers should appreciate the new venue - the result of a mammoth effort by the Festival Committee.

The reason most come to the Festival however is the Bluff Oyster and again this year close to 30,000 will be available - served cooked, raw, grilled, in pies, in soups, in croquettes and in shots to appeal to all tastes.

While the Bluff Oyster is the reason that thousands flock to Bluff for the Festival each year, there will also be plenty of other tasty treats on hand.

Seafood Chowder, muttonbirds, kina, blue cod, seafood gumbo, scallops, crayfish, prawns, whitebait and salmon are just some of the mouthwatering offerings while if you are not partial to seafood there are plenty of food delights for you as well.

On stage both The Eastern from Lyttelton and Wellington based celtic duo The Filthy Two return this year while local bands, Rhythmonyx and Vixen will also be part of an entertainment programme that complements a day of great food, fine beverage and fun!

In addition to the music the Festival will again feature Oyster Opening and Eating competitions while the winners of the previous evening's Kayes Bakery Creativity Awards will also appear on stage after the judging at the Bluff Town Hall on Friday 22 May.

Gates open at 10.30am on Saturday 23 May and tickets are available now from www.ticketdirect.co.nz and Ticket Direct outlets around New Zealand. Locally they are available from the Invercargill City Council, Esk Street, Invercargill 03 2111 692, at the Bluff Service Centre or Barnes Wild Bluff Oysters, Spey Street, Invercargill.
