Celebrate our future leaders

Celebrate our future leaders

Starting Saturday Ara Taiohi Youth Week celebrates ‘We are the future/Kō tātau te ao o āpōpō. From May 23-31 young people and their supporters will be running events across New Zealand that showcase the passions, achievements and successes of New Zealand’s young people.

“Youth Week is our chance to promote the contribution young people make to New Zealand now and in the future”, says Ara Taiohi EO, Sonya Hogan. “We encourage parents, families and communities to get involved in Youth Week and celebrate the great things young people are doing”.

“Each year we are blown away by the variety of events that happen across New Zealand, from poetry slams and drawing sessions to music events and documentary making and of course the Youth Week 2015 Awards,” says Sonya Hogan.

The theme and poster design for Youth Week are voted on by young people and adults from across the country. The winning poster for Youth Week was designed by Hamilton Girls’ High School student, Savana Beaumont.

This year Ara Taiohi has developed downloadable stickers and language sheets in Chinese, Fijian, Te Reo Māori, New Zealand Sign Language, Samoan and Tongan so that young people, organisations and communities can share the message of Youth Week in multiple languages.

Anyone interested in Youth Week can visit Ara Taiohi’s website: www.arataiohi.org.nz/YouthWeek to find out about Youth Week events, download resources and get involved in celebrating young people.
