MotorSport New Zealand adopts new constitution
MotorSport New Zealand (MSNZ) adopted a new constitution at its Annual General Council Meeting, held at the Brentwood Hotel in Wellington on the 23-24 May.
The new constitution, which was first introduced to the sport’s member council at the 2014 annual meeting, is the result of a three-year review. Primarily, it dictates the introduction of a governance board and operational management team.
MSNZ president Shayne Harris said it will bring MSNZ in line with other national sporting bodies.
“It allows us to put in place a modern governance structure, on which to build the sport’s future,” said Mr Harris. “One of the major drivers of the change was to create separation between the operational and governance decision-making functions.”
Under the old constitution, the council-elected Executive Committee was responsible for governance of the sport and the planning, management and control of the affairs and finances of MotorSport NZ.
The new structure allows the, still council-elected, governance board to focus primarily on the long-term direction of the sport.
A six-person panel was elected at the AGCM to further review the new constitution. It’s tasked with identifying and investigating any refinements, and will present a report to the council at next year’s AGCM, scheduled for 28-29 May.
The
review panel comprises:

Roger Herrick – Historic Racing Club
Inc
Wayne Scott – Past Chief Steward of MSNZ and Member
d’Honneur
Geoff Andrews – Motorsport Bay of
Plenty
Ross Armstrong – MG Car Club
