CANOE AND Kayak Taupo offer award –winning guided tours

CANOE AND Kayak Taupo offer award –winning guided tours on the pristine waters of Lake Taupo and the Waikato River.

With two breathtaking tours to choose from you can paddle your way to the awe-inspiring Maori carvings or take a trip floating your way along the crystal clear Waikato River.

The spectacular Maori carvings tour is an 8 kilometre round trip that takes about four hours to complete including paddle time as well as time to stop and take in the amazing surroundings. “The trip on Lake Taupo features stunning views of Mt Ruapehu and Mt Ngauruhoe which features as Mt Doom on Lord Of The Rings,” says Mike Pennefather from Canoe and Kayak Taupo.

The tour gives you the opportunity to get up close with these historic carvings while you are accompanied with a guide who has the local knowledge to answer any questions you may have. The biggest carving is more than 10 meters high with 15 smaller carvings spread out for your viewing. The tour also allows for a chance to stop and swim in the crystal clear waters.

The river float tour starts right at the beginning of the Waikato River where the water leaves Lake Taupo. Participants make their way down the exquisite river passing under the drop zone for the Taupo Bungy and continue on to the natural hot pools where you can stop for a soak in 40+ degree water. The tour takes about 2 hours including the shuttle and is suitable for people of all ages and skill levels.

On both tours you are accompanied by a friendly guide from Canoe and Kayak Taupo to make your adventure as enjoyable as possible. “Our staff are highly trained and qualified and have a wide range of knowledge about the river and lake,” says Mike. “The benefit of joining one of our tours is we can show you things you might have missed if you were kayaking on your own, there are so many things of significance you may not notice otherwise,” adds Mike. Participating in a guided tour also ensures your safety while out on the water.
