Survivor of Depression launches Kickstarter campaign

Survivor of Depression and Attempted Suicide launches Kickstarter campaign to finance a memoir/self-help guide for the estimated 1 in 5 people in New Zealand living with a mental illness.

About My Campaign and My Book

Mental illness is a bastard. I should know. It almost killed me. Yet, I eventually found my strength, my purpose, my reason to go on. Now I want to help others make it through the darkness that is mental illness, in spite of the stigmas that surround it.

Many of us who experience mental illness find that we’re treated like lepers, unlike those with a physical illness. Why is it OK to have something go wrong with any organ in our bodies, yet there’s such stigma when something malfunctions inside our brains? It’s all illness. I, for one, refuse to be quiet. Because the cost of silence is too great. We’ve had a spate of high-profile suicides in the past couple of years, such as Charlotte Dawson in February 2014, renowned actor Robin Williams in August 2014 and Simone Battle from the pop group G.R.L in September 2014. We can no longer tolerate stigma or silence.

This is a topic that can’t be ignored - and this is the book that I was looking for in my darkest moments. That’s why I wrote it. My book is about surviving and thriving in spite of mental illness, based on my own experiences and extensive research, written with positivity and optimism. You can find out more by visiting my website (www.jeremygodwin.net) or my Kickstarter page (http://kck.st/1ejpOmH).

If I exceed my target on Kickstarter I will be using the additional funds to first finance a quality audiobook, so the visually-impaired have quality access to my book, and then to run a series of free public seminars across Australia and, hopefully, around the world. Yes, that’s right - free. I don’t see the point of publishing this book if I’m not going to get out and spread the word about hope and mental health to as many people as possible, so that’s why I’ll offer as many free public seminars as I can.

This is why it is so important that I am able to find people, like yourself, to support me in promoting my Kickstarter campaign. I’m not publishing the next 50 Shades series, launch the next iDevice or revolutionise the way our cars drive themselves; I’m simply looking to show people who need it most that there is, in fact, hope.

Thanks for your time and consideration. If I may provide any additional information, please contact me using the details at the top of the page.
