The Warehouse offers once-in-a-lifetime job to two Kiwi kids

Two lucky Kiwi kids have today won the job of their dreams – official ‘Toy Tester’ for The Warehouse.

Manaia McCaul (6), from Paraparaumu, and Abbey Scott (9), from Wellington, have been announced as the country’s official Toy Testers for 2015/16 following a nationwide search which garnered more than 1,000 entries from around the country.

On hearing the news, Abbey could not believe she had won the once-in-a-lifetime role.

“It really doesn’t get any better than this. I love toys – they are my life – and I can’t wait to help Kiwi kids around the country find out what’s new and cool every month!”

“Being a Toy Tester for The Warehouse has become one of New Zealand’s most coveted jobs,” said Simon Turner, CEO of The Warehouse.

“Children are the best judges when it comes to knowing what toys other kids like, and it’s clear Kiwi kids take toys very seriously. We’ve had our largest number of entries ever this year, and they were all of a very high calibre. It was a tough decision, but we’re thrilled Manaia and Abbey are on board and look forward to hearing their valuable feedback on some of the amazing new release toys and games we have to offer,” he said.

Soon to become household names, the official Toy Testers will be given a laptop, Panasonic video camera and $200 worth of exciting new toys to review each month. To keep kids up-to-date with what’s new and exciting, the videos they create will be shared on The Warehouse’s YouTube channel*, available for children all over the world to watch. Manaia and Abbey will also receive $1,500 cash.

Their job doesn’t stop there however. The Toy Testers will also be involved in major Halloween and Christmas festivities with The Warehouse, where they will be frontline for all new costumes, decorations and in store appearances.

To help Abbey and Manaia with their mammoth new duties, two associate Toy Testers, Lexi (6) from Christchurch, and Zac (10) from Ohaupo, have also been named.

Lexi and Zac will help out reviewing new toys and sharing their thoughts with the Toy Team and kids, through YouTube videos. Lexi and Zac each won $1,000.

The Warehouse announces this competition each year as part of its famous annual July Toy Sale, which this year celebrates its tenth anniversary. Aspiring Toy Testers (5-10 years) are invited to apply for the job of their dreams by submitting a short video clip highlighting their toy testing talents. The top 20 were flown to Auckland to audition for the superstar role and a panel of judges selected the final two winners.

The Warehouse’s annual Toy Sale is one the company’s biggest events of the year, offering families unbeatable prices on kids’ favourite brands and top-quality toys. The sale kicks off in early July across 93 stores and online, reaching every corner of New Zealand.
