VIVA L’ITALIA: a new Festival of Italian Cinema

Cinema Italiano Festival New Zealand

Monday 13 July 2015

VIVA L’ITALIA: Paolo Rotondo set to deliver a new Festival of Italian Cinema

Paolo Rotondo (Actor, Filmmaker) is honoured to be launching a new festival of Italian Cinema – The Cinema Italiano Festival.

A Festival that promises to be an authentic reflection of Italian culture.

“It has been a long-time passion of mine to honour the deep-rooted Italian culture of film. And while we have said Arriverderci to Tony Lambert, and the now defunct Italian Film Festival, the new, Cinema Italiano Festival brings a much needed vitality to the Italian cultural landscape, here in New Zealand.”

Not only will Paolo bring his signature Italian style to the new festival, he will also bring new sponsors and a new focus. A more collegial focus.

“The Cinema Italiano Festival is about more than just films,” says Paolo, Festival Director.

“It is about identity, history, and a shared appreciation of Italian culture as well as great cinema.”

The Cinema Italiano Festival officially launches in May 2016 with a nationwide tour, and audiences will also have the opportunity to luxuriate in a host of co-sponsored Italian events.

This year however, Paolo is determined that ‘the show must go on’ and does not want audiences to miss out on an Italian Film Festival in 2015. So with the support of the Italian Ambassador and the Italiano Festival in Auckland, Paolo is organising a pre-launch ‘festa’ and screenings. “Given the brief lead-in, it will be a small but perfect offering for our audiences.”

And being ever so quintessentially Italian, Paolo also encourages audiences to take part in the magic of the NZIFF this year. “Bill Gosden always curates such a visual feast and this year is no exception. There are some exquisite Italian offerings.”
