Royal New Zealand Ballet dancers waltzed into The Palms
Police officer. Fire fighter. Astronaut. All Black. Ballerina. Growing up, kids often identify with a profession to the point where they play dress up and take lessons to look and act like their hero. These school holidays fans of tutus, tights and pointe shoes were in luck as two of the Royal New Zealand Ballet’s (RNZB) most foremost dancers chasséd into Christchurch’s The Palms Shopping Centre to meet and perform for some of their biggest fans.
Last week, the magic that is the Royal New Zealand Ballet headed to The Palms Shopping Centre for three mini performance workshop events. With beautiful costumes, a real stage, stunning make up and exquisite live music it proved to be a fantastic opportunity for Cantabrians of all ages to see a world-class performance.
With three complimentary sessions lasting 45 minutes each, Bronte Kelly and Joseph Skelton were on hand to perform, conduct a ‘question and answer’ forum, and also host a mini ballet class. At each session, Bronte and Joseph gave away a double pass to the Royal New Zealand’s adaptation of a Midsummer Night’s Dream when the Royal New Zealand Ballet returns to Christchurch to perform on 27 August, 2015 at The Isaac Theatre Royal. A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a new ballet by Liam Scarlett and will be a spectacular world premiere.
