First Points in NZB Spring WFA Championship to Mourinho
Fetching first points towards the New Zealand Bloodstock Spring WFA Championship at Caulfield was Mourinho (Oratorio) with a narrow victory in Saturday’s Group 2 $200,000 Back to Caulfield P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m).

A winner of six stakes races, including
the Group 2 Australia Stakes and the Group 2 Peter Young
Stakes, with a placing in the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes in
between, this was Mourinho’s first start for the newly
appointed trainer Darryl Blackshaw.
“It was a very exciting win,” remarked Blackshaw. “I’ve been 40 years without a group runner let alone a winner.
“He had been working really well going into the race and thought he would be a chance. He will go to Moonee Valley next for the Group 2 Dato Ta Chin Nam Stakes after which he will return to his original trainer (Peter Gelagotis).”
