Holder to make championship comeback at Coromandel

After a near career ending crash at the opening round, David Holder makes a return to the Brian Green Property Group New Zealand Rally Championship for this weekend’s Mahindra Goldrush Rally Coromandel.

Tauranga’s Holder was holding down third place in the opening round before a heavy rollover threatened to end his dream. However with large amounts of support from many people, the likeable 26-year old will line up for the Whitianga-based event that he finished second in last year.

After signing up experienced co-driver Jason Farmer at the start of the season, the event represents the first time the pair will actually compete together, a prospect that excites Holder.

“Normally you get to know a co-driver in the car, but in this case we've had all year to get to know each other over a range of various tasks i.e servicing for other competitors,” says Holder.
“Jase has been a hugely supportive working hard to get things on track for our return.”

With the countless hours of hard work that have gone into getting to the event, plus one of the most competitive fields of the season and a lack of recent seat time, Holder has realistic expectations for the event.

“It’s been a tough road getting to the start line of this event and I really have to thank everyone that has helped out as well as our incredibly patient sponsors. Now we just need to head out, record a clean finish and enjoy ourselves.”

Last year, the ‘Goldrush’ debuted in the NZRC and received massive local support and a large spectator turnout and Holder hopes that the event will be similarly popular again in 2015.

Mahindra Goldrush Rally Coromandel gets underway with a ceremonial start from 4.30pm in Whitianga on Friday afternoon. The following day, teams will tackle nine special stages totalling 130 kilometres before the finish ceremony from 4.15pm.
