Taste of Auckland welcomes The Social Kitchen

Taste of Auckland welcomes Little Bird Organics, Pizza World Champion and more to The Social Kitchen™ Theatre byFisher & Paykel

Now in its seventh year, and with a new name and design, The Social Kitchen™ Theatre by Fisher & Paykel is a veritable culinary hub, where food-lovers can watch their favourite chefs in action; learn the tricks of the trade and sample delicious cuisine. Having long been a festival favourite, this year’s offering is set to be the best yet.

For the first time, The Social Kitchen™ Theatre welcomes Little Bird Organics’ Megan May who will be giving a ‘Good Taste’ demonstration, exploring food that’s good for your health, the planet and your taste buds. Megan is joined on the schedule by a who’s who of the NZ food scene - Michael Meredith (Meredith’s), Ben Bayly & Mike Shatura (The Grove), Anthony McNamara (The Oyster Inn), Sachie Nomura (Sachie’s Kitchen), Ange Merrie (PrettyDamnGoodForYou) and more. Visit Taste of Auckland for the full schedule.

This year’s international flavour is not to be missed for all the pizza lovers out there! The Social Kitchen Theatre is thrilled to welcome Johnny Di Francesco, one of the best pizza chefs in the business, having been crowned the top chef at the Campionato Mondiale Della Pizza 2014 (Pizza World Championship) in Parma, Italy. Johnny runs arguably the most popular pizza restaurant in Melbourne; the highly-regarded Gradi, in Brunswick. Johnny will be leading demonstrations with our own local pizza guru, Sergio Marline of Farina, on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

As well as watching some of the country’s best chefs do their thing, festival-goers can also catch two Fisher & Paykel demonstrations in conjunction with their Our Kitchen food bloggers - a collaboration with Dr Feelgood who will interpret a home-made treat for summer, and the ‘Art of Grilling’ with boutique butchers, Neat Meat. The Social Kitchen theatre is hosted by renowned food writer, stylist and photographer, Kelly Gibney of Bonnie Delicious food blog.

Taste of Auckland is excited to offer guests a plethora of mouth-watering entertainment including the first ever Taste of Auckland Gourmet Hāngi, prepared by a different leading chef each session who will bring their own ideas and ingredients, put them into the hot earth and serve up hundreds of portions to festival visitors.

And there’s nothing quite like buying straight from a local producer, so this year Taste of Auckland is welcoming over 100 boutique and premium producers from all over NZ. From luscious pickles and spreads to fine pressed olive oil. Whether you are filling a Christmas hamper or finding a treat for the weekend, this is the place for you.

Getting to Taste of Auckland is easy with dedicated, direct shuttles from Downtown Auckland to Western Springs. Coaches will pick up from 32 Customs St East, near Shaky Isles, returning after each session and departing 30 minutes before each session. Coach tickets are available from the festival website.
