Governor-General to welcome Royals
The Governor-General, Sir Jerry Mateparae is looking forward to officially welcoming TRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall to New Zealand tomorrow as the royal couple arrives in Wellington to begin a seven day visit.
“It will be a great pleasure to welcome The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall on behalf of all New Zealanders, “ Sir Jerry said.
“This visit is a great opportunity to strengthen the relationship this country has with the heir to the throne. I know people will be very keen to show Their Royal Highnesses the warm hospitality Kiwis are famous for.”
Sir Jerry and his wife, Lady Janine Mateparae last hosted the royal couple in 2012, when they came to New Zealand as part of The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations. During that visit, Their Royal Highnesses officially opened the Government House Visitor Centre and The Prince celebrated his 64th birthday with 64 New Zealanders who shared the same birthday.
“The birthday party at Government House, and the incredible Kiwiana cake that was served, were extremely memorable for everyone who attended,” Sir Jerry said. “I’m sure this visit will provide some equally unforgettable experiences for Their Royal Highnesses and for the people they meet on their travels.”
