Fagan's renaissance continues, with recent critically acclaimed EP 'Ancestor' and the imminent release of a live LP. Fagan and band (Darryn Harkness, Ronny Haynes, Kurt Shanks and Josh Rockfield) present 30 years of great tunes - from early hits like Swear It's True, Alvison Park and Forever Tuesday Morning, to solo gems like Jerusalem, Exciting and 2015 favourites Ancestor and Stalling.
Reviews this year include:
Trevor Reekie, Radio NZ: “Fagan & The People are totally fearless, loud, psychedelic and very funny. Fagan himself is a righteous raconteur"
Simon Sweetman, Blog On The Tracks: "The title song is majestic. It feels like one of the very best songs Fagan has ever offered. Stalling and Davilon manage to say more in their short running time than many other songs manage.”
In the early 1980s Fagan took the The Mockers from Wellington to Auckland, landing chart success with a series of hits, and collected the RIANZ award for Top Male Vocalist, before an extended stint with the band in the UK. His return to New Zealand saw the release of solo album Blisters in 1994. Fagan & The People’s debut album was Admiral of the Narrow Seas, followed by last year’s Ancestor EP.
Fagan’s other driving passion is sailing. He is currently in the middle of a five-week adventure to the Kermadec Islands. Fagan has authored two sailing autobiographies, Swirly World: The Solo Voyages (which captured his epic solo journey across the Tasman) and Swirly Word Sails South about his voyage to the sub-Antarctic Auckland Islands in the notorious Southern Ocean, setting a world record in the process.
