Korero Mai: Saturday 14th November and Sunday 15th November
On Saturday, The Waitangi Tribunal this week heard a challenge to the way reform of Maori land law is being done. Claimants say problems with Te Ture Whenua Maori Act 1993 can be sorted out with simple amendments rather than a radical rewrite. They also fear a focus on economic utilisation will lead to owners losing control of their whenua or even the whenua itself. In Korero Mai ki Ahau on Saturday, Eruera Morgan talks with New Zealand Maori Council co-chair Maanu Paul about why the centerpiece of the Maori Party reform agenda is causing such alarm.
On Sunday, Eru Morgan talks with New Zealand First MP Pita Paraone about whether frontline staff should be the casualties of Maori Television’s quest for a bilingual workforce. He says sacking two receptionists for not being fluent in te reo a clear abuse of the principles of the Treaty, especially when the same language requirement has not yet been applied to other staff.
Korero Mai Ki Ahau a half hour features programme every Saturday and Sunday from noon, which takes an in – depth look at issues affecting te ao Maori. Totally in te reo Maori brought to you by Waatea News in association with Te Mangai Paho.
