Kava Club Launches Klubhaus at Wellington Pasifika Festival

Wellington based Pacific and Māori arts collective Kava Club is launching a funky Klub-haus for young people at this year’s Wellington Pasifika Festival.

The Kava Klubhaus will offer free contemporary Pasifika Face Painting, Colouring-in, #makeyourownbadge, ukulele lesson and a Kava Klubhaus photobooth as part of their activities at the annual festival.

“Positively Pasifika is a highly anticipated annual event for our Wellington Pacific Commu-nities, especially families. Kava Club will be supporting Pasifika with a range of fun arts and craft activities targeting young kids. The aim to provide a quirky, creative interactive space to promote the arts. This is not only an opportunity for Kava Clubbers to engage with our Pasifika communities, but also role model the importance of creative play to our Tamaiti/Tamariki” Kava Club co-founder Herbert Bartley said.

The Kava Club is an independent arts collective established in 2014 for emerging and es-tablished artists that hosts Chop Suey Hui a monthly programme of events and art fo-rums around the city of Wellington.

This year the group has successfully secured new funding from Creative NZ and with the continued support of Tautai Pacific Arts Trust is aiming to reach out to new audiences and artists. Following the Wellington Pasifika Festival this years programme includes working with Pūtahi Festival in theatre and dance, fostering a contemporary Pacific re-sponse to the Homosexual Law Reform, as well as collaborations with Tuhoe artists, sup-porting filmmakers in Siapo Cinema and celebrating Pacific and Māori music makers.
