'A Tension To Detail' at NZ Fringe

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

British-Canadian comedian Gerard Harris brings his highly acclaimed solo show “A Tension To Detail” to the Wellington Fringe this February for 5 nights at the Cavern Club.

A big hit throughout Canada over the last 3 years, the show is a fast-paced, darkly comic story of a man permanently stuck in 5th gear and trying not to crash. With an hour stacked full of true tales and wild tangents about birth, death and all the shit in between, the show is a hyperactive philosophical comedy about the many awesome feats of stupidity and selfdelusion we perform whenever love and happiness threaten to transform our lives for the better.

Performed by one of the most popular, energetic and unpredictable storytellers on the Canadian Fringe and Theatre festival circuit, “A Tension To Detail” has provoked laughter, tears, sellout houses, stage invasions, male and female stalkers and widespread critical praise across the country. Reviewers have called it “Hilarious, yet thought provoking”, “an exhilarating experience… [packed] with comedy and charm” and “a work of art that will remain with me for a long time”. That last one was a bit strong, but you get the idea.* After touring New Zealand, the show goes back to Canada to play in 4 festivals before moving on to San Francisco for its US theatre debut in the autumn.

Gerard is known as a lively and quick-witted performer with a large stash of stories that sit right on the border between funny-haha and funny-boohoo. Audience feedback most commonly sees him compared him to the comedian Robin Williams, the actor Marty Feldman and the storyteller Spalding Gray, but he began as a joke writer and opener for the British comedian Jimmy Carr before moving into scriptwriting, working on children’s cartoons and adult comedy shows for the BBC and Channel 4. He has also appeared many times on CBC Radio in Canada and recently spent a month going out of his mind in a performance art piece for the Montreal Biennale.
