Pigeons, Boutique Waters, Urban Adventures at Arcade 2016

Pigeons, Boutique Waters, Urban Adventures at Arcade 2016

The Performance Arcade is an annual Live Art mini-festival and programme of free events located on Wellington Waterfront. Using a series of architecturally arranged shipping containers, the Arcade creates a string of spaces for installation, performance art, sonic art, audio-visual art, interactive media, culinary art and live music.

Artistic Director Sam Trubridge is pleased to present a line-up of 18 exciting new works, both local and international, from seasoned Arcade artists to first time participants.

Using different serving methods and different waters sourced from New Zealand and around the world, The Water Bar will be serving a refined menu of boutique waters. Kane Laing presents New Zealand's first fully functioning contemporary water bar. Kane's interest in molecular gastronomy, craft beer and wine tasting began with his experimentations with alternative coffee brewing as a teenager. “Consumer’s interest is not just limited to the emotion or product, the idea of investing in a brand is a huge part.”

Reserve your pigeon today! Kedron Parker and Adam Ben-Dror are offering Wellingtonians the opportunity to gain new insights on the omnipresent pigeon - meet one, hold one, and let it fly home. While admirers of the pigeon are few and far between, its history is in fact interlaced with that of human civilisation. Hello Pigeons! allows us to interrogate the urban ecology of our home that we share with pigeons and many other species. This work is also part of the NZ Fringe Festival and is supported by the WCC Public Arts Fund.

Walks exploring the ecology and diversity of nearby streets depart The Performance Arcade each day between 11am and 1pm, and 5 and 7pm. Led by the hakapapa of artists Angela Kilford (Te Whanau A Kai, Ngati Porou, Ngati Kahungunu) and Elijah Winter, their project questions how we value different types of knowledge . No Stone Unturned also encompasses a collaboration between the artists, participants and the Manaia weavers from Hikoikoi, continuing to explore the dialogue started on the walks through learning and making.
