Two days of high fashion and premier thoroughbred racing

World-class horse racing, talk-of-the-town parties and stunning raceday fashion, there is nothing quite like Auckland Cup Week (ACW) at Ellerslie.

The grand finale of the racing season, Auckland Cup Week boasts two elite racing events – the BMW Derby Day on March 5, and the Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup Day on March 12. The highly anticipated event is one of the biggest social and sporting events on the City of Sails’ calendar.

With the introduction of Ellerslie’s newest hospitality offering, the Mumm Racing Village, more fantastic live entertainment and an international guest fashion judge on Cup Day, Auckland Cup Week returns in 2016 bigger and better than ever.

BMW Derby Day, 5 March

Celebrations for the highly anticipated Auckland Cup Week kick off on Saturday5th March with BMW Derby Day.

Renowned as the glamour day of Cup Week, BMW Derby Day features the running of New Zealand richest Group 1 Race – the BMW NZ Derby with over $1.2million in prize money on offer. Acclaimed Kiwi jockey, former Melbourne Cup winner and Australian Hall of Fame inductee Jimmy Cassidy will hold an exclusive Q&A session over lunch in Cuvee.

A long-standing Derby Day tradition, black and white raceday attire will take centre stage in the BMW Fashions in the Field competition. Under the watchful eyes of guest fashion judges Amber Peebles and Tracey Dalton, the most stylish on course will take to the catwalk vying for the prestigious title as well as around $30,000 worth of prizes on offer. The BMW Fashions in the Field winner will join other winners from around the country and represent Auckland Racing Club in New Zealand’s Fashions in the Field final, Viva Prix de Fashion.

Guests at the Mumm Racing Village on BMW Derby Day will be treated to live performances from The Levites, New Zealand’s leading session band with singer Erakah throughout the afternoon.

Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup Day, 12 March

The excitement continues the following weekend with the pinnacle of Ellerslie’s summer racing season, the Barfoot & Thompson Auckland Cup Dayon Saturday 12th March featuring three Group 1 races with a combined total stake of over $1million dollars.

As well as on-track action, there’s plenty to see off-track in the Viva Prix de Fashion competition judged by glamorous Australian model and Victoria Racing Club ambassador, Rebeccah Panozza, and Viva beauty editor Janetta Mackay. Rebecca is an experienced equestrian, model and former Myer Fashions on the Field ambassador. The crowned Prix de Fashion winner will take home prizes to the value of $30,000 and go on to represent New Zealand at the Myer Fashions on the Field as part of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

With performances from DJ duo, Sweet Mix Kids and friends, the Mumm Racing Village will be the hottest ticket in town on Auckland Cup Day.
