Local librarian is staging a real “Kiwi Flyer” to take off to Bolivia

Local Nelson librarian Karen Fern is staging an outdoor movie to raise funds to help Bolivian children. Karen will spend three months in Bolivia with the organisation Biblioworks, volunteering in the library Biblioteca Municipal de Tarabuco.

The outdoor movie night takes place on Saturday 27 February at Nelson Intermediate School. The movie night starts at 8pm and costs $5 per person or $20 for a family. Karen says, “It’s a real a real pleasure to offer a true family event for Nelson.”

‘Kiwi Flyer’ is a movie about a family out to win the legendary Nelson Trolley Derby. “What makes this movie so special is that it is set and filmed in Nelson with lots of locals as actors and extras” says Karen. “It’s going to be a lot of fun watching the movie at Nelson Intermediate where some of the movie was filmed.” Money raised will go towards Karen’s expenses including quality books for the Library at Tarabuco.

Biblioworks is a non-profit organisation that promotes education and literacy in communities in need. The organisation is founded on the principle that literacy and education are critical for the creation and vitality of sustainable communities and cultures. They have built and equipped twelve libraries around the area of Sucre in the Chuiquisaca province of Bolivia.
