Victory! New Zealand Warriors to remain at Mt Smart Stadium
One of the early advocates for the retention of Mt Smart Stadium as the home of the New Zealand Warriors is declaring victory.
Manurewa Local Board chairperson Angela Dalton said the decision by Regional Facilities Auckland to finalise an agreement with the New Zealand Warriors to retain Mt Smart Stadium as a home ground for the NRL club until 2028 meant common sense had one the day.
“League is a blue collar sporting code; hugely popular in Auckland but particularly in the working communities across the south of the Auckland region. We campaigned for the retention of Mt Smart Stadium as the home ground for the New Zealand Warriors because that ground is accessible to the thousands of Warriors fans who live in communities like Manurewa, Mangere, Otara and Papakura.
“Mt Smart Stadium is the natural home for rugby league, not speedway. I congratulate the New Zealand Warriors management, Sir Peter Leitch and all the Warriors fans who stood full square behind Mt Smart as the rightful place for this iconic NRL club,” Angela Dalton said.
