Bollywood, Hip Hop Performers part of this year’s colourful Holi Festival

Bollywood hip hop group, Subject 2 Change, is just one of the exciting groups who will perform at Christchurch’s Holi Festival of Colours at the Commons on Saturday 5 March.

Others helping to light up the stage will include Indian Folk and Bollywood fusion group, Tahuko and Jalsa Hip Hop group.. Throughout the day, international DJs will play a mix of modern Indian dance tracks as people come together in the colour-throwing zone.

Darshana Darshika of Subject 2 Change says, “Holi is a day when there are no barriers and everyone can have fun. For us, it’s a chance to showcase our talent to a new audience”.

The traditional Indian festival is designed to bring people together and strengthen the community. It is about connecting, forgiving and looking ahead. The throwing of powder colours symbolises everyone becoming equals, whether they are friends, foe or strangers.

Event co-organiser Hitesh Sharma from Revel Events says, “At Christchurch’s third Holi festival, people should expect plenty of colour, captivating performances, tasty treats and even a few surprises ”.

Also taking to the stage will be Discover 24 – Total Fitness and Nutrition. The group will be warming up the crowd with simple fitness routines before the colour countdown begins. Owner and Health Coach Leticia Crampton says, “People should expect Holi to be a lot of fun. It’s a time to not worry about anyone else, get involved and just give it a go”.
