SKYCITY Mystics win ANZ Championship Pre-Season Shootout

SKYCITY Mystics win ANZ Championship Pre-Season Shootout in Auckland

The SKYCITY Mystics have emerged victors, defeating the Cold Power Magic 31-24 at the ANZ Championship Pre-Season Shootout Final at The Trusts Arena in Auckland today.

Maria Tutaia and Cathrine Tuivaiti (nee Latu) shot with confidence and precision from the supershot three point zone to guide their team to victory.

“We’ll take great confidence from these games,” Mystics captain Maria Tutaia said.

“We may have won the Shootout but at the end of the day it’s about winning games during the season.

“We were really lucky to have a crack at the Firebirds twice. We learnt so much, not just from them, but all the other teams and about ourselves. It has been a positive weekend.”

Attention for the five teams – SKYCITY Mystics, Cold Power Magic, Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel, Adelaide Thunderbirds and Queensland Firebirds – now turns to the opening round of the ANZ Championship, starting on April 1.

“I’m really excited for round one. I can’t wait for the season to start; training has been hard but really good and the vibe in our team has been really positive,” Tutaia said.

“To see players, like Megan Craig, grow; in the space of three days she has become a totally different player.

“Seeing those changes has been a real positive.”
