Bernie Griffen channels Sothern Gothic Cinema in new video release.
Bernie Griffen is about to embark on a sojourn to perform in the UK and other parts of Europe, and before leaving these shores he willrelease his first music video on April 14th 2016 with an open invite video release party at 8pm, The Golden Dawn – Tavern of Power, Ponsonby.
Six months in the making, this video was crowdfunded in January where $6,040 was raised by fans worldwide to pull it off. It has a Western style with a short film narrative aesthetic, following a gritty story featuring man, coffin and gunpowder.
Produced by production agency Howl Creative, the video was written and Directed by Tom Levesque, including Alex Jenkins as Director of Photography and lead actor Steve Ciprian. With limited budget it was the ultimate collaboration of friends, family and wider whanau who believed in the vision and rallied together to lend a hand.
Bernie Griffen, Kirsten Warner and the Thin Men appear in the video during brief performance pieces, while the narrative elements collide and juxtapose throughout. It was filmed across dry Hauraki Plains, through Auckland City and rural Warkworth.
This video is unique in its aesthetics and handling of the subject matter, bringing to life a bitter and vengeful story, climaxing in both death and rebirth. It portrays the restorative inner journey of Bernie’s life and overcoming adversity.
Bernie Griffen and the band will perform at the release party, and the video will be launched on the big screen.
This will be one of the last NZ events for Bernie Griffen and Kirsten Warner before touring Europe and connecting with large numbers of international fans.
It was an objective of the crowdfunding campaign that this video will showcase Bernie’s music, promote their international profile and increase their social media presence.
Bernie is an Auckland-based folk musician and the host of 95bFM Border Radio.
