The ITM Fishing Show comes to the Mainland
The ITM Fishing Show comes to the Mainland.
Every week we watch kiwi outdoorsman Matt Watson living the life we all dream of, embarking on fishing adventures all over the world, yet the man himself say’s there’s no place like New Zealand, and he reckons the South Island has got it over the North Island.
“I love getting down to the South Island, it’s got the hunting, fishing and diving, and the quality of the wild food from the hills and from the sea is outstanding”
On Matt’s latest trip in the South Island he’s guided in the hills by keen hunter Sam Whitelock, (he’s also pretty good at Rugby). It’s plain to see that Sam has a passion for the outdoors and he’s right at home in a back country hut and cooking on an open fire.
Matt also catches up with a few more mates equally as passionate about the outdoors, and between the high country and the sea they encounter deer, wild pigs, trout, salmon, groper and crayfish to name but a few. And as always on the ITM Fishing Show there’s plenty of insight into how to catch and prepare the bounty of wild game.
As you can expect when ever a North Islander mixes it up with the locals there’s plenty of banter and laughs, none more so that when the experienced southern trout fishers get stuck into matt when he goes almost all day with out a bite “these trout are a bit smarter than those north island snapper” was one of the many quips aimed at Matt. But it did set up the trip for an exciting finale when Matt does get a bite, it’s a fish bigger than anyone could have imagined.
The ITM Fishing Show’s South Island episodes run over two weeks from this Saturday 5pm on TV ONE.
South Island Hunt ‘n Fish. 5pm July 30
The South Island is a hunting and fishing paradise. So Matt heads down to meet up with some passionate outdoorsman, including All Black Sam Whitelock. Day and night the team are on the hunt for wild food including Deer, Pigs, Trout, ayfish, Groper and many other tasty salt water fish.
River to Sea - 5pm August 6
Every drop turns up trumps with a hook up of a hapuku, groper or Bluenose and you’ll be amazed at how easy it is to get a feed of crayfish, you don’t even have to get wet. And Matt hooks up with some locals to experience what is billed as the best fishing in the South Island, for trout and salmon that are regularly caught over 20lb.
And Matt gets one of the greatest catches of his career that stuns the local anglers.
Due to public broadcast we have omitted some of the kill scenes, but rest assured we will upload this bonus footage to www.thefishingshow.co.nz to keep the hunters amongst us satisfied.
