Wellington’s Park Road Post
Production to open its doors to young film making
talent
Wellington, New Zealand: The award-winning facility behind the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies is opening its doors to aspiring film-makers from New Zealand and around the world in an industry-first programme to give the next generation of talent hands-on experience and training in film and television post production.
The 10-day, intensive programme will give up to 18 participants the opportunity to learn alongside Academy-Award winning engineers, technical practitioners and artists in a world-class post production facility.
Cameron Harland, Park Road’s CEO, says participants will work in small groups gaining an in-depth understanding of sound and picture essentials including picture conform and grading, sound editing and mixing and 2D VFX.
“We see this as a great way to help inspire and develop the next wave of talent for the film industry in New Zealand and for students from other countries, many of which partner with us and other New Zealand film providers on productions.”
Park Road will be offering the programme both internationally, in partnership with Education New Zealand, and locally as part of the company’s commitment to the New Zealand film industry.
Education New Zealand’s General Manager Business Development Clive Jones says “the new programme is a unique opportunity to raise the profile of international education opportunities in the Wellington region and of the leading edge creative and tech companies based here, like Park Road Post Production.”
Park Road Sound Manager Nigel Scott says the course offers participants an unprecedented opportunity to work alongside professionals who have helped make some of the most successful films of the past two decades.
“The New Zealand film industry has a reputation for taking a very innovative approach, and the film makers we work with demand the best from the people here. Those accepted into the programme will be working with people who are passionate about delivering the very best.”
The programme, which will run for the first time from October 31 this year, will be open to people from around the world and from any film-making discipline.
“No matter what part of the filmmaking process you want to specialise in, understanding post production will be incredibly valuable in helping gain a deeper appreciation of how a film is put together," Nigel Scott says.
Following the inaugural programme later this year, it is hoped the course will be run twice in 2017. Students wishing to apply should be currently enrolled in a relevant university degree or other tertiary course for film, or have work experience in the film industry.
