Polish Film Festival Screens in New Zealand (Wellington) for First Time
For the first time in New Zealand, the inaugural Wellington Polish Film Festival, will take place in the heart of Wellington from 30 September - 9 October 2016. (Go to www.wpff.nz for more details)
Taking place in downtown Wellington at the iconic Paramount, the Wellington Polish Film Festival is an exciting opportunity to enjoy a feast of Polish cinema.
Wanda Lepionka, the Festival Director and creative force behind the Festival said Polish cinema is making waves around the world and influencing the face of modern cinema.
“Polish film talent is featured consistently in competition at major film festivals and I’m delighted to bring to Wellington new works, features, shorts, animation and documentaries from Poland’s emerging filmmakers, each with their own voices.”
The focus isn’t just on the new though. This year, 2016, is the ‘Year of Krzysztof Kieślowski’, in honour of one of Poland’s greatest and world renowned filmmakers whose work still resonates with film audiences 20 years after his passing.
“We will join Poland in celebrating the work of Kieślowski, with a tribute, from his early shorts to his later award-winning works which have inspired generations of Polish filmmakers and others worldwide.”
The Festival welcomes supporting partner, the Polish National Film and Theatre School in Lodz one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious film schools. The school produces winners of Academy Awards and continuous festival prizes in Cannes, Berlin and Venice.
The
Wellington Polish Film Festival will be announcing the film
programme shortly. “We have some great films coming, some
not seen here yet, and we can’t wait to share this with
film festival audiences in New
Zealand.”
