Orchestrating Outcomes

6 September 2016

Press release – Orchestrating Outcomes

Excellence in teams works when there is a conjunction of a worthwhile goal, inspiring leadership, depth of talent, mutual respect, and focused preparation. To demonstrate this, Orchestras Central Trust has stepped up to give a completely new perspective to the leadership journey.

Orchestrating Outcomes is an innovative interactive day of workshops followed by a panel discussion and Q&A with Conductor, audience and other teachers that encourages business leaders to think about ways in which the culture of a professional orchestra might transfer to other organisations.

As part of the programme, attendees are seated among and behind the orchestra and numbers are limited to ensure a true immersive experience, and is facilitated by Peter Walls, Music Director of Opus Orchestra. Peter also guest conducts with the NZSO, Southern Opera, the New Zealand Arts Festival and many other orchestras), was Chief Executive with the NZSO (2002-2011) and now Chamber Music New Zealand, is a former Pro-Chancellor of Victoria University and a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors, so is in a unique position to understand how an orchestra provides an inspiring model for a well-functioning organization dedicated to excellent outcomes.

‘’Every well-functioning entity needs to be like an Orchestra: an ensemble of diversely talented individuals who are committed to excellence and dedicated to producing a final result that will be perceived as inspiring’’ says Peter. ‘’Opus Orchestra, the regions only professional Orchestra will demonstrate the concept of leadership within the orchestral milieu. Key to this is having players who are used to interpreting quite subtle aspects of what the conductor is doing and having section players who are observant and responsive to what the section principal is doing. Moreover, we want the business participants/audience to be genuinely impressed by (and to enjoy) what they hear’’
