The Embassy of Japan, in cooperation with the Japan Foundation, is very pleased to introduce the Japan Film Festival 2016.
This year, the ever-popular Japan Film Festival has expanded to a larger venue to accommodate six recent films across a variety of genres from human drama, to comedy and animation. They provide the audience with an exciting opportunity to deepen their familiarity with Japanese culture and society.
Opening night brings you a touching film, “Dearest” (final work for Japan’s renowned actor the late Ken Takakura) and a different film will be shown each night from 6pm between Tuesday 18th and Friday 21st October. There is something for everyone with “Platinum Data”, a sci-fi investigation suspense film on Wednesday, the refreshing comedy/drama “Hospitality Department” set in a local government office on Thursday and the inspirational drama “A Boy Called H” a coming of age story with a twist on Friday evening.
On Saturday the 22nd, a well-known nursery tale “Crying Red Demon” has been turned into an anime film “Monster Island Naki.” The festival concludes with a showing on Saturday afternoon at 3:30pm with a touching film “Fruits of Faith” based on a true story of a farmer who desperately wants to grow organic apples, despite strong opposition and environmental difficulties.
Admission is free to all sessions and tickets can be downloaded on the Eventfinda for priority entry to the theatre. Seats are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Please see the attached file for more details and it can be also found at: http://www.nz.emb-japan.newweb/about_us/EventCalendar.html.
