Lydia Cole releases new single and video

Silver Scroll nominee Lydia Cole writes bare-boned, heart-on-your-sleeve songs. And today, the Auckland singer-songwriter releases her latest – ‘Telepathise’.

Accompanying the single is a stunning video made by New Zealand-born animator/illustrator and musician Timothy Armstrong, who now lives in Berlin. The stop-motion video is inspired by Cole’s album artwork and is a breathtaking and delicate visual piece made with layers of hand-cut cardboard, balanced on a custom-built rotating set in Armstrong's Berlin apartment, where he spent a month taking thousands of still photos to create it.

From her upcoming second full-length album THE LAY OF THE LAND (to be released February 17), ‘Telepathise’ touches on the tension between optimism and pessimism, idealism and reality.

“Telepathise is about seasons, how everything comes to us, and everything goes as well. It's a song written from my own letting go of needing the answers, needing control, needing certainty, needing perfection in my life and my progress. It's an admission that the magic of love, of the earth, and of the interconnection of things is beyond my understanding,” says Cole.

‘Telepathise’ is a delicate, yet epic, soundscape that encompasses all that Cole’s music has come to represent – lyrical artistry, melodic mastery and quiet contemplation. It is these qualities that truly shine through on the accomplished nine-track album, THE LAY OF THE LAND.

The single is the third from THE LAY OF THE LAND and follows on from ‘Dream’, which earned Cole her second Top 5 finalist spot in the prestigious Silver Scroll Awards; and ‘Sober’, which clocked an impressive 100,000 spins on Spotify in just one month of release.

To mark the album’s release, Cole is touring New Zealand and Australia, kicking off in Brisbane on February 23 and ending in Wellington on March 11.
