SHAPESHIFTER - Live This Summer - Whangamata Show Added

SHAPESHIFTER
THE UPBEATS, P-MONEY
& THE SUNSHINE SOUND SYSTEM

SATURDAY JAN 28th
(Auckland Anniversary Weekend)
WILLIAMSON PARK, WHANGAMATA
(R18 / Gates Open 4pm)

Firmly entrenched in the premier league of New Zealand music makers and with a new album Stars dishing out the damage left, right and centre, Shapeshifter are taking their phenomenal live show on the road this summer.

The Upbeats have made an indelible imprint upon the New Zealand drum’n’bass scene since they emerged in the early 2000s. With three albums under their belt and a fourth on the way, these dons of the drop are always guaranteed to bring the energetic vibes and drum’n’bass pressure.

P-Money’s talent in the studio and on the decks have made him a household name and a pioneering figure within New Zealand music. Only a handful of D.J.'s can create both a great live mix on stage and produce amazing original songs, P-Money is one of those select few.

The combination of the brazen beat-ology and supreme selections of THE SUNSHINE SOUND SYSTEM is invariably a positive outlook with a strong likelihood of crowd-wide spontaneous showers of dancing, hooting and hollering - guaranteeing the show flow together like no other.

SHAPESHIFTER

Though they have a back catalogue that encompasses 7 albums and a host of international releases, it’s in the live arena where Shapeshifter truly unleash their firepower. With the best part of two decades worth of live touring experience, including festivals like Glastonbury, Parklife and the Big Day Out, they have fully mastered their craft and are rightfully now enjoying the largest audiences of their career. Without any hint of compromise these five, fiercely talented individuals have managed to take their sound to the world while breaking the mainstream mould. Primed and ready to let off for the lucky denizens of Hawkes Bay, Lower Hutt, Tasman Bay and Coromandel with a show that is second to none, the Stars are truly aligning on the Shapeshifter Summer Tour.

Ladi6

The architect of blistering sultry soulful gems like Walk Right Up, Diamonds, Like Water and Ikarus as well as recent sly scorcher Beffy, Ladi6 has established herself as a highly individual, top notch recording artist and powerful live performer. Since taking up the mic with Sheelahroc in hometown Christchurch, Ladi has rewritten the book on neo-soul hip hop in New Zealand, claiming her own unique territory, and inspiring a new generation of positive female vocalisers in the process. With conscious lyrics, deadly delivery and sublime stagecraft that has seen her hailed up in halls and festivals all over the globe, Ladi 6 and partner Parks along with
Julien Dyne and Brandon Haru are a true funk phenomenon.

The Upbeats

Jeremy Glenn and Dylan Jones, better known as The Upbeats, have made an indelible imprint upon the New Zealand drum’n’bass scene since they emerged in the early 2000s with their own blend of highly individual, hard hitting d’n’b. With three albums under their belt and a fourth on the way, alongside a slew of singles for the likes of Ram Records, Virus and Noisia’s “Vision” imprint the amateur entomologists have also set their sights on outside production, most notably with US bass music superstar Bassnectar and of course on Shapeshifter’s Delta and Stars. These dons of the drop are always guaranteed to bring the energetic vibes and drum’n’bass pressure, resistance is ultimately futile.

KORA

Never less than a live ‘must see’, Kora break rank and gleefully ignore genre divisions with performances that defy easy categorisation, and never fail to fire and inspire. Manifestly a live band first and foremost, though with a two #1 LPs under their belt, they are a group who never play the same show twice and who exemplify the joy and possibilities of a shared musical vision, albeit one with a very varied gaze. With their first new material since 2012’s LIGHT YEARS in the form of CAROLINA (watch the video above), The proud creators and prime proponents of ‘alien funk’, a live engagement with Whakatane’s finest is invariably a bracing otherworldly musical experience.

If it’s all in a name, then it would be hard to argue that Sunshine Sound System got it right when they took on their radiant nomenclature. The combination of the brazen beat-ology and supreme selection of DJ Downtown Brown with the bon vivant lyricism of MC’s KPZ and Switch is invariably a positive outlook with a strong likelihood of crowd-wide spontaneous showers of dancing, hooting and hollering. Originally home to Shapeshifter frontman P Digsss, Sunshine Sound System have a long and deep history with the entire line up, which gives them all of the knowledge and skills to guarantee the night flows together like no other.
