Woodhill Sands for World Cup Final
International showjumping returns to Auckland in January for the Continental Cars Audi World Cup Festival at Woodhill Sands.
The very best combinations will go head to head to contest the final of the Country TV World Cup (NZ series), chasing not just honours in the class, but also the opportunity to represent the nation at the Longines FEI World Cup Jumping Final, in Omaha, Nebraska, in the United States, from March 29-April 1, 2017.
The World Cup Festival, organised by Show Jumping Waitemata, is renown for its international flair and has been widely recognised for the dressing of the arenas at the popular annual show.
For 2017 they have top British course designer Peter Gillespie setting the tracks for the riders in the premier arena. Gillespie, an FEI level 3 designer, has been crafting his magic for 34 years, including 20 at top level in the UK, Europe and Australia.
As well as the World Cup final, there are other exciting classes to be enjoyed, including Friday afternoon’s 1m Pony Grand Prix (non series) and Saturdaynight’s Maxlife Pony Grand Prix, which is part of the Equissage sponsored national series. Sunday is the big day, with entertainment and excitement from 11am.
The new Sponsors Charity Challenge will see 18 riders in an exciting fast-paced class with the winner pocketing $1500 and the sponsor given $2000 to give to the charity of their choice.
The top-notch show also launches the new Continental Cars Audi New Zealand Championship Series, which runs from 1m through to 1.3m height classes across five divisions. The first two rounds of the competition will be held at January’s World Cup Show, with the remaining rounds at events in February and march.
As well as cash, one lucky entrant will walk away with a $16,000 Thoroughbred Horse Float.
More than 500 horses are expected to compete in four arenas over the three day show.
Hundreds of spectators usually flock to Woodhill Sands, some bringing picnics, while others prefer to buy from outlets on site. Entry is free.
The show will be live streamed via http://jxsport.tv/ .
