Conroy Seeks Race Wins

Conroy Seeks Race Wins

The focus for Invercargill driver Jamie Conroy is on race wins as he approaches Round 3 of the BNT NZ Touring Car Championship at Mike Pero Motorsport Park at Ruapuna near Christchurch this weekend.

Conroy and his Allied 24/7 Fuel Falcon are currently third in the championship just ten points off second place but 73 points adrift of championship leader, fellow Southlander Liam MacDonald. Conroy was second overall at the second round at Taupo last month just one point behind MacDonald but the damage to his points tally was done at the opening round at Pukekohe in November where he endured a tough weekend plagued by a multitude of problems.

After Pukekohe Conroy and his team worked through a list of changes to the car and since Taupo more work has been done. “We brought the car home after Taupo and worked through another list of things we wanted to check. It was a bit of a challenge over the Christmas/New Year period with everyone closing down. We managed to get a bit more weight out of the car. We wanted to test but the Christmas shutdown ruined that so we won’t know where we are at until practice on Saturday morning.”

“For us now it is about taking wins. We proved we have car speed at Taupo and from this point we need to focus on wins to make up the deficit,” says Conroy who recorded his first win at Taupo in just his second weekend in the series.

The Southlander is looking forward to the round. “The weather forecast looks good and the final race of the round is a reasonably long one which will test driver endurance. When I did the New Zealand Grand Prix in the Toyota Racing Series I really enjoyed the longer race and we came on stronger as the race went on so I am hoping that will cross over to the V8’s.”
