Judges announced for Cup Day Fashion in the Field

Judges announced for Cup Day Fashion in the Field

The scene is set for Wellington’s biggest annual celebration of fashion with the announcement of the judges for the 2017 Rydges Wellington Fashion in the Field on Cup Day, Saturday 21 January.

Last year’s popular inclusion of Super Rugby Champions the Hurricanes get a twist this year, as the respective partners of Beauden Barrett and Nehe Milner-Skudder - Hannah Laity and Hanna Tevita - join the judges' panel. Alongside them will be professional stylist to the stars Luke Bettesworth and The Crowd Goes Wild host & Green MP Hayley Holt.

“Having attended Wellington Cup Day for the last year, it’s an honour to be in the judging panel this year. It’s Wellington's biggest day for fashion so there will be no shortage of well-dressed ladies and gentlemen enjoying the day - the race is now on to get my outfit sorted, as well as brushing up on the classic racing styles and latest trends!” commented Laity.

The judging panel is a significant change from 2016, where four Hurricanes each judged a category, with this year bringing a proven mixture of professional stylist talent and fashionista nous.

They will be responsible for awarding massive prizes across five categories; Classic Lady, Contemporary Lady, Best Dressed Man, Maiden and Supreme Winner.

Winners of the first four categories can look forward to a weekend away courtesy of Rydges Hotels, with travel from Williment Sports Travel and more. However, the competition really steps up a notch for the Supreme Winner category, which will be selected from the four finalists.

They will win a trip for two to Victoria Racing Club’s Crown Oaks race day, including three nights at Rydges Melbourne, flights for two courtesy of Williment travel and $500 spending money. They will also receive entry into the Prix de Fashion Finals at Ellerslie as well as flights and accommodation for that event. It’s a huge prize package with the potential to catapult an aspiring fashionista into the spotlight.

Leading the judging panel is professional stylist Luke Bettesworth. A member of the Westfield Style Collective, Luke has extensive experience in all aspects of fashion. He will provide invaluable advice and guidance to the panel.

There’s not much that Hayley Holt hasn’t seen or done - from her glamorous Strictly Come Dancing days, to professional snowboarder and now showing her comedic talents as The Crowd Goes Wild television host. She’ll be looking for a bit of flair and personality from our contestants.

Hurricanes’ WAGs Hanna Tevita and Hannah Laity know better than anyone what’s on trend. Tevita, is an actress who starred in both film and television, recently played a lead role in TVNZ’s Terry Teo. Firm friend and namesake Laity commands a huge social media presence while working for PricewaterhouseCoopers, having graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and commercial law from Victoria.

Fashion in the Field entry is free for Wellington Cup Day attendees. If you have a passion for fashion, a love of racing, a beautiful outfit that you want to proudly display or you are a sewing wizard, then let Fashion in the Field be the catwalk to show off your style.
