On Monday the hammer will fall on the first of over 1300 of the finest thoroughbreds on offer.

Last season the Carnivals, the Cups, the Derbies, the Classics and the Miles were all impacted by the kiwis, further enhancing a reputation for delivering results in the races that count. The primary source of these gutsy athletes with their hearts of gold is Karaka.

Karaka graduates won 23 Group 1 races last season and have won the most Group 1 races at the Championships of any sales company

Last season a massive 20 Group 1 races were won by 15 individual G1 winning graduates of NZB’s National Yearling Sales Series

Last season in Australia, New Zealand thoroughbreds won 25% of the G1 races, yet they make up only 5.4% of the racehorse population

The past five seasons has seen 34% of all Group 1 races for three-year-olds in Australia at 2000m and above won by New Zealand-bred horses

Last season NZ bred or sold horses won 38% of G1 races during the Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup carnival

33% of Group 1 filly races in Australia in the past six seasons have been won by NZ bred or sold fillies

Four of the last five Queen Elizabeth Stakes, the richest weight for age race in Australia, have been won by NZ thoroughbreds – 2016 Lucia Valentina, 2015 Criterion, 2014 Dundeel, 2012 More Joyous

Last season both of Australia’s big derbies were won by NZB graduates – Tarzino Victoria Derby, Tavago Australian Derby

Last season both of the big Asian derbies were won by kiwi thoroughbreds – Werther Hong Kong Derby, Well Done Singapore Derby
