Working Class Boy: An Evening of Stories and Songs

JIMMY BARNES

WORKING CLASS BOY: AN EVENING OF STORIES AND SONGS | NEW ZEALAND TOUR BEGINS NEXT WEEK

Jimmy Barnes will kick off his New Zealand WORKING CLASS BOY: An Evening of Stories and Songs tour on Monday 6 February in Invercargill. The ten date tour will see Jimmy make his way up the country performing in special venues nationwide. Surrounded on stage by his children, Jimmy will bring his recently released book Working Class Boy to life, while baring his heart and soul.

The production has just won the ‘Best Cabaret’ award at the 2016 Sydney Theatre Awards for his recent performance at the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall. The shows have received unanimous rave reviews including:

“You know you’ve been to a pretty good gig when the songs of your youth are redefined. That is just what this old Cold Chisel fan is feeling right now after spending a wonderful 150 minutes listening to Australian rock great Jimmy Barnes tell his life story with yarns and song” – The West Australian

… anyone seeking an emotional, dark, funny, exciting theatrical event — and a powerful singer still in great voice — will be thrilled” – Sunday Mail SA

A powerful, deeply emotional and transformative production” – The Daily Telegraph

This unique live theatrical production is a companion piece to the first volume of his memoirs - Working Class Boy, released by Harper Collins in September 2016. The book was written entirely by Jimmy Barnes. It tells the raw and confronting story of fleeing the poverty of Scotland only to endure violence and abuse as an immigrant in the suburbs of Adelaide. This special live event will see Jimmy sharing stories from his troubled childhood and delinquent adolescence. It will also see him accompanied by his musical companions, delivering intimate performances, of some key songs drawn from his earliest years. This tour will be a treat with lots of storytelling providing a real insight into the events that shaped Jimmy's life and his music. With extra shows just added to meet demand in Australia, it’s clear that this show is truly not to be missed.

‘See the live show, read the book’
