Big Day in Upper Hutt this Saturday 18 Feb inc City of Song Music Festival Saturday 18 Feb with Warratahs as headline act

UPPER HUTT, Wellington , NZ 27 Jan

Upper Hutt is full this weekend with The City of Song Concert , Karapoti BIke Race , Wellington Brew Day at Trentham , Te Marua Speedway , Champs at Hutt Valley Gun Club and SH 2 busy with people en route to “ Wings over Wairarapa

-The Warratahs is the headline act for this year’s Upper Hutt City of Song concert at Harcourt Park on Saturday 18 February.

Another highlight is the reunion of Don Wilson and Stefan Brown who performed as Ebony in Upper Hutt in 1974. They recorded the song “Big Norm” about Prime Minister Norman Kirk which has become a frequently played golden oldie.

Upper Hutt has earned a reputation for home-grown musicians, singers, songwriters and instrument makers. Names like Frankie and Jon Stevens; Wayne Mason, who wrote the award winning song “Nature” ; formed part of the local growing music scene in the ‘70s.

When the Rimutaka Community Trust donated the new Harcourt Park Sound Stage to the City annual music concerts became a regular and very popular attraction. The City of Song Trust now lead by Wayne Marsh continues this activity to encourage local musical talent to grow. Local resident Renee Maurice who won TVNZ’S New Zealand’s got Talent some years ago is also performing as part of the 14 acts for the day.

The Festival concert runs from 3pm until 10pm; refreshments will be on sale and there will be other family entertainment on site. Patrons are welcome to bring their own picnic.

Entry will be by gold coin donation with proceeds supporting 4 A Better City .The concert website is www.cityofsong.com
