Cassandra English's Redhead Triplets Photo Goes Viral

Only days old and triplets already famous

One of New Zealand’s leading newborn photographers has captured a sibling bond which has started to go viral around the world.

Christchurch photographer Cassandra English from Hazel&Cass took the photos when the redhead triplets were just 31 days old, and shared them with photographer colleagues and in New Zealand parents’ groups and the feedback was instant.

This kind of session is a very rare occurrence in New Zealand’s newborn photography community, so once Cassandra knew these triplets were booked into her studio she wanted to document it. She organised videographer Emma Smart to take a video of Cassandra and her team working to show the magic behind this session.

“The video has gone viral in the newborn photography community. Even the likes of Kelly Brown from Australia, the world’s best newborn photographer, has commented on it. The video has reached 30,245 people, and been shared 45 times in less than 12 hours. In one parents’ Facebook group the photos have had over 1500 ‘likes’,” Cassandra says.

“I have never had a session get this much attention, but I am not surprised. The triplets were three stunning little redheads after all,” she says.

Macy, Toby and Sadie, the first set of triplets born in Canterbury this year, were absolutely perfect throughout the shoot, and even their tiny wee smiles were captured in a moment of magic.

Newborn photography is not just about taking photos. It’s about building the trust with the babies and having a gentle, very hands-on approach (which you can see in the video clip below).

Cassandra says that standout newborn portraiture takes patience, attention to detail and creativity. The session took a total of 3.5 hours and a very hot room, two assistants, and lots of white noise so that the babies were reminded of being in mum’s tummy.

“Keeping the triplets cuddled up together was key. Once separated they started to stir, but once they were all together they were instantly settled and very happy. I wanted to create images for their family that were timeless, and images that would be passed down for generations to come. Who knows, maybe one day these triplets will have these photos hanging in their own babies nursery one day,” Cassandra says.

The photographer is now getting her studio ready for another shoot with the triplets this weekend and their two young siblings will be joining them.
