Hobbiton takes home Best in Show People’s Choice Award

The Hobbiton Beekeeper’s Hobbit Hole beat more than 100 other garden displays to take out the Best in Show Peoples’ Choice Awards at the 2017 New Zealand Flower & Garden Show.

Members of the public took part in the poll which saw The Hobbiton garden awarded the accolade. In addition to the People’s Choice award, the display was also awarded Horticultural Excellence and the prestigious Best in Show award.

The upcycle garden challenge presented by Tui and Resene was also announced this afternoon which saw Sarah Hewitt’s Hamlin Road Farm announced as overall winner in this category.

The show is expected to attract thousands more visitors through this weekend, showcasing everything from intimate urban gardens, challenging landscapes, bee-friendly flowerbeds and flourishing fruit and vegetable plots.

Packed with entertainment for all ages and stages, the show especially welcomes children with an aim to develop a deep love of the environment and a desire to grow their own gardens.

The highly-anticipated sell-off will take place on Sunday from 5pm. Over the course of the afternoon visitors are encouraged to barter with garden designers to take home a piece of the display for themselves.
