Treble Cone to Celebrate 50 Glorious Years in 2018

Treble Cone Ski Area to Celebrate 50 Glorious Years in 2018

Wanaka’s much-loved Treble Cone Ski area will be celebrating a golden era of ski tourism with its 50th anniversary next year.

Back in 1967 a determined group of skiers, mountaineers, financiers, entrepreneurs, local landowners and construction experts all played their part in creating a ski area they visualised as becoming one of the best in the world.

Two of those giving so freely of their expertise, enthusiasm and ability to drive projects included Sir Tim Wallis and Sir Edmund Hillary, both who went on to become directors in the 1970’s.

This year Treble Cone has developed a three-year strategy to secure and grow business sustainability including investment in key on-mountain areas, a focus on differentiating its ski field offering and other initiatives designed to engage and delight its many ardent fans.

In 2018 the strategy of Investment, Simplification and Accessibility will be undertaken.

Investment will include a refresh of the Base Building ensuring a more relaxing environment, a 30% increase in grooming capacity delivering more groomed runs earlier on in the season, upgrade mountain technology, to ensure better on mountain communications for guests.

Simplification will involve a streamlined and differentiated product offering.

Accessibility will include a FREE TC Mountain Shuttle for guests from the bottom of the access road.

Ski area CEO Jackie van der Voort said Treble Cone boasted the largest skiable area and highest vertical in New Zealand’s renowned Southern Lakes area, offering a ‘real’ New Zealand snow experience.

“Skiers and snowboarders love coming up here because of our long, uncrowded slopes, our legendary off-piste terrain, unrivalled views and genuine personal service,” she said.

“In the meantime we’ve released our Earlybird Season Pass details so our loyal fans and those already planning their winter holiday so they can lock in the best deals available as we swelter in the extra warm start to summer.

“The Season Passes on sale now represent tremendous value for money for adult season pass holders in particular.

“Treble Cone season pass holders ski on average over twice as many days a season compared to other ski areas in New Zealand, with a high number of average runs per day. They certainly show their love for the mountain and what it has to offer and we welcome them with open arms to the TC family.”

The expansive mountain spreads over two large groomed basins, and Mother Nature helps take care of the terrain, sculpting fun gullies, wide faces and exciting undulating runs.

Ms van der Voort said Earlybird pricing was available only until December 15 2017 so advised snow lovers to buy now.

Adult day lift pass prices for 2018 start at $95 a day for a Treble Cone ten day pass, an Adult Unlimited Earlybird season pass is $1299, a Senior Ambassador pass $499, Child Unlimited is $299 and a Family Unlimited Pass just $2399.
