New Zealand’s own Leonard Cohen tribute band Imperfect Offering is presenting a commemorative concert in Auckland and Wellington in October/November 2018. The band was formed in 2015 from established rock, jazz and classical musicians in a nine-piece line-up including violin and even balalaika. They have had standing ovations and sold-out houses in a tour of the North Island started last year. They appear for one night in each centre - the Concert Chamber in Auckland’s Town Hall on Sunday 28 October and at St Andrew’s on the Terrace in Wellington on Saturday 3 November.
Imperfect Offering has appeared on TVNZ News on the event of Cohen’s death in November 2016 and was selected to be represented on the official Leonard Cohen website Cohencentric. Imperfect Offering have appeared at Q Theatre Auckland, Ascension Wine Estate Matakana, Tauranga, Hamilton and Century Theatre Napier. Imperfect Offering presents the best of Cohen’s music including the great “Hallelujah”, “Suzanne”, “Chelsea Hotel”, “The Future”, “Bird on the Wire” and songs from Cohen's extraordinary last album You Want it Darker. Audiences have said:
“Fantastic night plus a full house and standing ovation”
“Great show. Seamless mix of decades”
” A rich tapestry of music played by talented musicians”
“So good for the body and soul!”’
The name Imperfect Offering is inspired by Cohen’s ‘Anthem’
"Ring the bells that still can
ring
Forget your perfect offering
There
is a crack in everything
That’s how the light
gets
in”.
