Same But Different: A True New Zealand Love Story
36 PRESENTS and RAW Productions today revealed their
official trailer in anticipation of the 2019 release of
their romantic feature film, Same But Different.
This film is based on Kiwi-Samoan filmmaker Nikki
Si’ulepa and Rachel Aneta Wills’ love story.
Rachel
is a thirty-five year old, working, single mum who appears
to have it all until she meets, Nikki – a passionate
film-maker.
Sam, Rachel’s best friend, coerces Rachel
to pursue her escalating feelings for Nikki but Rachel is
disheartened as her attempts fumble into a sequence of
embarrassing events.
With all hope gone, it’s
Rachel’s humanitarianism that grabs Nikki’s attention
and the two hit it off. All is going well until Rachel’s
ex-lover, Rob, throws a spanner into the wheels of love.
Nikki’s assertion for making the film was that she wanted to tell a true, romantic, love story that people would relate to. She added, “We knew our love story wasn’t smooth sailing, but we felt that anyone who has ever experienced being in love would resonate with the awkward, first steps two people go through. When you try your hardest to connect with that person and it doesn’t all go to plan, but something inside of you picks you up and tells you to get back in the saddle and do it all over again; that’s love. ‘Same But Different’ is the beginning of us. It’s our Truth, and I love it.”
Rachel wasn’t as forthcoming to bare it all on the big screen. She comments, “It was Nikki’s suggestion to make our love story into a film. But, after talking it out, I knew this was a story we needed to tell. It offers a glimpse into same-sex relationships, which I don’t think many people truly understand. We are blessed in New Zealand to have a lot more respect and acceptance of same-sex marriages and we continue to set an example for the rest of the world. ‘Same But Different’ is a true New Zealand love story, because it’s ours.”
A family romantic drama, Same But Different - A True New Zealand Love Story will be released worldwide in early 2019.
